There is an option to use external USB drive where Windows could save the setup files, but I never had success with that one. And the painful trials to clean some files, uninstall some apps and so on start again, but all this is just a waste of time. At that point one is prompted again by the Windows Update Installer to free some additional space, at least 8 GB, or similar. This might somehow work, yes, until the next Windows 10 major release. I even did clean windows 10 installation, which basically helped too, but the big issue is that every time you install the latest Windows Updates you will realize that there are only 4-5 GB left and this is before additional custom apps and software are being installed on the system and with only one user account. I did PC refresh, to get rid of old OS files, to free disk space. I had the same issue all the time and I have spent days, if not weeks trying to clean the disc, make space available, etc.
