It doesn't seem to be a strategy game in the strict sense and more like a family/dynasty simulator. My problem isn't that I find the game too difficult but rather its main focus.
Which is sad, because I absolutely adore the medieval time period. I played CK2 for a bit and it just didn't click for me. What I love about strategy games: working your way up to become a dominant power, painting the map in your color, overcoming the odds, expanding beyond the ocean, making smart strategic decisions, forging alliances and biding your time.
Starting out with Age of Empires way back, I later on got into Total War and eventually into EU4.
